Xploregon

What is Xploregon?
Camp Fire USA's Xploregon program is a series of summer road trips that engage teens for a two week youth-led adventure across Oregon. Following an itinerary of outdoor leadership activities and hands on volunteer projects, teens will travel outside of their comfort zone and beyond their community for a unique and ultimately life changing experience.

Who is Xploregon for?
Xploregon road trips are open to all high school teenagers, boys and girls, entering into Sophomore, Junior or Senior year in September 2008. There are 20 seats on each trip for participants; that is 60 teens in total for this summer.

When are the Xploregon trips? The 14-day road trips will run 3 times this summer with a trip running in June, July and August:

  • June Trip: Tuesday 6/17/08 - Monday 6/30/08.
  • July Trip: Thursday 7/10/08 - Wednesday 7/23/08.
  • August Trip: Thursday 8/7/08 - Wednesday 8/20/08.

What do the trips involve?
Xploregon is a unique two week experience for teens that will broaden horizons, build leadership skills and create a lasting impact on participants and communities alike. Stopping throughout Oregon, Xploregon participants will become Camp Fire USA Youth Ambassadors, teaming up with local community partners to complete hands on service projects and also spend time enjoying the best of Oregon´s great outdoors: rafting on the Deschutes River, rock-climbing at Smith Rock or completing the challenge course at Camp Fire USA´s Camp Namanu.

What is different about Xploregon?
Teens will be in the driver´s seat (metaphorically speaking) each step of the way! Participants will be empowered to take responsibility for planning the meals for the trip, managing the food/gas budget, and connecting with partner organizations in communities across Oregon to set up and complete service-projects with the help of local peers.

What is the cost & scholarship options?
With grant $$$´s backing this summer´s Xploregon program, teens can now register for one of three Xploregon road trips for as little as the $75 non-refundable deposit. For those who can contribute more to cover some of the basic costs (food, gas, equipment), your support is very much appreciated and will allow Camp Fire USA to continue offering low cost programming to those in need.
