Camp Namanu offers intentional and well developed programs, based on the philosophy of Camp Fire USA. With an emphasis on small-group, individual attention, and an appreciation of differences. Programs focus on cooperative group living, an appreciation of nature, social skill development, non-competitive sports, fun and friendship. With an adult to camper ratio of 1:6 for campers under 8 and 1:8 for campers over 9, youth get the individual attention they need in a safe and healthy environment.

Program Descriptions: General Sessions

All campers live in cabins or tipis with other campers of the same gender and age group, along with a caring camp counselor. While all sessions offer a general, age-appropriate camp program that includes cookouts, hiking, creative dramatics, swimming, boating, nature games, singing, and crafts, each cabin group chooses specific activities for the weekly session. Each session is unique and youth driven. Unit assignments are based on the child's grade in the fall of 2008.

Beginning in Robin Hill (5th grade), campers begin their journey on Namanu's Challenge Course by trying out the climbing tower! Kiwanis (6th grade) continue the journey on the Challenge Course by working as a team on the low-ropes course. The journey continues further for campers in Pioneer (7th & 8th grades) and Balagan (9th grade and above) as they encounter new challenges on the high ropes course.

Specialty Program: Ranch Camp

Namanu Ranch is a horse lover's paradise. Our riding instructor assigns campers to individual horses, and teaches them horsemanship skills and safety practices. Campers live near the horses in open air cabins. When not on horseback, they participate in camp activities, including archery, arts & crafts, and a trip to main camp for time in the pool. Our ranch program has become our most popular program in the past three summers, so campers are encouraged to register early!

Specialty Program: Outpost

Outpost programs cater to our more adventurous camper. Campers in the Outpost Unit enjoy many of Camp Namanu's traditional activities, but tackle additional "challenges" as well. Each week of Outpost has a specific theme, and trips are designed to accommodate novice to intermediate skill levels. Theme weeks this summer will include a 3-day rafting trip on the Deschutes River, backpacking in the Three Sisters area, and rock climbing trips to Broughton's Bluff and Smith Rocks.
